They are considered completely deaf (no wonder there was no reaction when I tapped on the tank.)
Their entire body surface contains chemo/mechanoreceptors, which can detect pressure changes as well as the molecular composition of the water (like it’s pH, the amount of oxygen, etc.) That is really quite impressive, and here is something else that is impressive, they have both a gill AND a lung!
They can also seal the entrance of their shells to prevent drying out during dry periods. It is called an operculum, kinda like a little hatch door.
This is news to me, as I have a few but never knew what they were, operculum are used as organic pseudo-gemstones in jewelry. They are commonly known as ‘cats eye’ or ‘Shiva’s eye’.
Anyway, they are most active at night, and hide during the day, so that explains the mystery of their disappearance.
I liked it better when I thought they teleported between dimensions :)
And thus ends Snails 101, BUT, I found these games online! Pretty cool, huh?
Yeah, I like snails.....and most living and even non living things. Except most humans. Living ones. I'm afraid of them. And dead ones, too.
Snail Bob 2
Snail Bob 3
Snail Bob 4
And if you check the site there is also a Snail Bob 5: Love Story, a Snail Bob 6: Winter Story, and a Snail Bob 7: Fantasy Story. I have not checked them all out, just recently found them.
Cute games, not difficult, stressful or terrifying like most games I play. The play is pretty obvious, but take note, you can click on 'Bob' and he will retreat into his shell and stop moving. :)
And sorry 'bout the ads.
