If I could, I surely would
I'd rather be a hammer than a nail.
Yes I would
If I only could, I surely would.
Away, I'd rather sail away
Like a swan that's here and gone
A (hu)man gets tied up to the ground
They gives the world
Its saddest sound, its saddest sound
I'd rather be a forest than a street.
Yes I would
If I could, I surely would.
I'd rather feel the earth beneath my feet
Yes I would
If I only could, I surely would
('El Condor Pasa' Lyrics - Paul Simon)
I've seen a single tenacious parent attack a hawk, ten times it's size, to protect it's young.
I've watched them hop about like little wind-up toys.
I've smiled at seeing their tiny footprints in the snow.
They are nervous little birds, but it's no wonder.
They've built a nest inside an opening just outside my bedroom window. I can hear the hatchlings in the Spring of every year, chirping for food.
I don't mind at all....
