Maybe he should do a crossover called 'Road Hawg' with Babe as Max Porcine vs The People Eater: King of Gas Town....well, actually I've read where pigs will eat meat and aren't particular what kind, even 'long pig', but I guess, in a way, it's only fair they would eat us, just as we eat them.
The first to go would be Kevin Bacon :)
Anyway this is about the book I just got, 'The Art of Mad Max: Fury Road'.
It shows the film itself as truly a work of art. When you read of the thought and detail that went into the creation of it, it is simply stunning. For instance it stated that there was very little pre-written dialogue and a lot of it was improvised by the actors themselves. The storyboards were basically the scripted storyline and gave the feel for what the aim was.
Why so many older car? They would not have had the high tech computerization that modern cars have, thus would have been a lot more practical. Immortan Joe's 'Gigahorse', with it's Cadillacs positioned one mounted on top of the other was supposed to be symbolic of copulation.
That the vehicles themselves, being muscle cars, rat rods and military-type vehicles were considered symbols of masculinity in general.
Everything in the film had purpose and meaning.
Recycling became a necessity, nothing was actually thrown out, just repurposed. In the book it gives the example of a broken spear being reused as a crossbow dart, then as a splint, then a toothpick, then a pin and finally fuel for fire, the charcoal being used in making gunpowder.
Hoarders (like you see on 'American Pickers' for instance) will become lords, junkyards, and even dumps will become resource centers.
And just as ancients decorated utilitarian objects for both religious as well as aesthetic reasons, so do the characters in the film. Art is never lost.
Did you notice that Bullet Farmer's headpiece was fashioned out of cartridges to resemble a Judge's wig, and that he said he dealt justice?
And it's interesting that they even put specific detail to the tattoos and scarifications. Nux's were mostly tats of autoparts, pistons and such, religious emblems in their social order. Miss Giddy (who took care of Immortan's 'brides') had tats of historical events and things that were considered important and not to be forgotten since there were few books left. History recorded on skin.
The tat brand inked on Max (his back) at Citadel listed his physical status- 'Day 12045 ht. 10 hands, 180 lbs., No Name, No lumps, No bumps, Full life clear (or possibly 'clean'), Two good eyes, No busted limbs, Piss OK, Genitals intact, Multiple scars, Heals fast. O- Plus HI- Octane, Universal Donor, Lone Road warrior, Rundown on the Powder Lades V8, No guzzoline, No supplies, ISOLATE PSYCHOTIC, Keep muzzled' (Therefore stating his blood was clean for transfusions, that is why he was taken along by the War Boys in pursuit of Furiosa.)
The book is filled with information such as this, that would be missed, or was not even included, in the film.
The conceptual art alone is fantastic.
I just can't get over all the tiniest details that most viewers would never notice in the film. Even after seeing it multiple times.
Some films that are remakes or based on those previously made, never make the grade, but this far exceeds expectation. Probably because George Miller was 'behind the wheel' :)
I'm looking forward to the next one!
