I dunno. I think perhaps we have to look at the big picture and make priorities. Bringing back an extinct species, I should think, depends on why it went extinct in the first place. Was it from the natural order of things or was it something we did by either over-hunting, deforestation, pollution, bringing in other species that overwhelmed indigenous ones, etc.?
I agree we need to concentrate on stopping further extinction of our fellow inhabitants of this planet, but shouldn't we be more concerned with, say, saving the ocean, before saving the whales? Saving the forests, waterways, glaciers...our natural environment? That would make the most sense to me, but I am not a scientist.
