The following is info from Wikipedia-
Elder Futhark (2nd to 8th centuries) it is the symbol for 'water', in the Anglosaxon Futhorc (5th to 11th centuries) it stands for 'lake' [or possibly leek.])
In Marcomannic (8th to 9th centuries), Younger Futhark (9th to 11th centuries), Medieval (12th to 15th centuries) and Dalecarlian runes (16th to 19th centuries), it stands for the letter 'L'.
Interesting, huh?
