First let me say, legalization of Cannabis for medicinal purposes I fully support, however, I do not agree with legalizing it just so a State can make money off it. New Jersey's new governor plans to legalize it for recreational use. Why, because the state can tax it and make money from something that has the potential for addiction. Since the sale of regular cigarettes have plummeted due to ads concerning health (as well as their increasing cost) the State has lost money in sales tax, therefore they must find another 'recreation' to tax. Why do you suppose they are called Sin Taxes?
What of people that do not smoke at all? What rights will they have? Also people that live in apartment complexes or townhouses, condos, etc. if the odor pervades their home? What of children and pets? What of auto accidents due to this, since there is currently no on the site test for this? Apparently, in States that already have legalized it for recreational use, all the rights go to the user. Let the people suss it out. Courts have even favoured the user. I believe State government greed fails to take into consideration all issues. Everyone is out to make money. I'm sure there will be increases in auto insurance, lawsuits, etc.
I have read 'weed' only has an effect for 3-4 hours, can cause heart rate to rise even to the point of attack, repeated use can cause anxiety, paranoia, delayed reaction time. There are both short and long term effects.
Obviously, those that are current users are all for legalization because they were willing to risk arrest to obtain it in the first place. I feel legalizing it will only cause more problems, not lessen them. Pollute your body further, and those around you as well (second hand smoke.)
Rant over.
